Tallinn City Life Museum is closed until the end of the year

Tallinn City Life Museum (Vene 17) will be closing its doors on 3 February for a comprehensive makeover that will last until the end of the year.

However, the museum’s Old Town tours and education programmes will continue, and the museum itself will be visiting schools. Read more about the tours and education programmes. For bookings, e-mail .

The permanent exhibition, entitled ‘The City That Will Never Be Ready’, opened in 2001 and was nominated for a European Museum Forum award in 2003. The permanent exhibition was later joined by the museum’s open repository of porcelain, ceramics and metalwork in the basement of a medieval merchant’s house, whose creators earned a Best Collection Management award in 2015.

This year will see the permanent exhibition on floors 1 and 2 and the temporary exhibitions on floors 3 and 4 given a complete makeover. The repository of porcelain, ceramics and metal objects in the museum’s basement will remain unchanged.

The museum will reopen in late 2025 once the extensive refurbishments have been completed.

Prior to the overhaul, everyone is welcome to visit the museum’s exhibitions until the end of January.
